Miss Nebraska Sarah Rose Summers was named the new Miss USA last night, beating out 50 other women to win the competition in Shreveport, Louisiana. The 23-year-old Summers has two college degrees and is working on becoming a certified child life specialist.
Summers drew big cheers from the audience when in response to the question asked of the final three contestants -- what would you write on a blank sign on the way to a march -- she said she'd encourage people to, quote, "speak your voice," and called on people to listen to each other, saying it was something people in the U.S. needed to do. Summers will represent the U.S. in the Miss Universe competition.
