A new study by Mars reveals that more men (52%) than women (48%) are cat owners. Other findings:
- 37% of dog and cat owners consider their pets the most important thing in their lives
- 84% of dogs and cats are acquired before the age of 12 months.
- most commonly owned global dog breeds are Labrador (6%), Chihuahua (6%) and Golden Retriever (5%),
- most commonly owned global cat breeds are Persian (16%), British Shorthair (11%) and Siamese (9%).
- 50% of dog owners bought their dog because they want unconditional love
- 48% of cat owners bought a cat for the entertainment
- 44% of cat owners bought a cat for stress
