A new study by researchers in Switzerland reveals that specially designed video games may help older adults with mild cognitive impairment. Participants in the study played a game called "Brain-IT" for 12 weeks before showing significant increases in brain volume throughout regions associated with memory. They trained six times per week on the game along with other puzzles and breathing exercises. The findings point to potential new ways to treat early Alzheimer's disease patients. More research is needed to determine the precise link between the game and slowing the potential shrinkage of the Hippocampus.
