Lifeguards Rescue Teen Swimmers By Drone

The world's first water rescue by drone happened just recently off the coast of Australia. Lifeguards in New South Wales have been training to use drones during rescues, and had to put their newly leaned navigating skills to the test when two teenage boys were seen struggling in the rough surf over 2,000 offshore.

"Little Ripper" was flown out to sea and dropped an inflatable rescue pod into the water, where the boys were able to climb aboard and make it back to shore. The drone rescue only took approximately 70 seconds, whereas a normal lifeguard rescue can take up to six minutes or longer.
