Texas kindergarten teacher Ashley Coston Taylor has for 18 years had her students begin each day by shaking hands and greeting each other, telling the Fort Worth Star-Telegramthat it teaches them good manners and that, quote, "someone is on their side." Taylor posted a video on Facebook last week that went viral showing her kindergarten students at Keene Elementary School lining up to shake a classmate's hand. Every day, one student acts as a greeter and stands at the classroom door while the other kids line up to give him or her a handshake and say good morning before going into class. The video showed that some students also hugged the little boy who was the greeter that day. In the caption with the video, Taylor wrote: "When I see the direction the world is heading, it reminds me what I am doing WILL make a difference!" Taylor told McClatchy Newspapers, "The school shootings have been a real eye opener. Maybe if some of those kids had felt like someone was on their side, things would have happened differently. I understand there are lots of factors that play into those situations. But what if, you know?" (CBS News)
