It's 2019, But Women Are Still Doing Most of the Work Around the House

Old standards die hard. University College London researchers have found women are still doing the majority of the housework when living with a male partner. Looking at data from an old survey, they found women do approximately 16 hours of household chores every week, while men do closer to six hours. Also, women did the bulk of domestic duties in 93 percent of couples analyzed, and in cases where both people in a couple were employed full-time, women were five times more likely than men to spend at least 20 hours a week doing household chores. Researchers say the findings suggest that "gender equality in divisions of work" among UK couples is "rare," and that "gender norms remain strong."
