A four-year-old big brother from Philadelphia gets to be a real life hero to his twin baby brothers because he helped save their lives by donating bone marrow. Santino and Giovanni Demasi were diagnosed with chronic granulomatous disease (CGD) not long after they were born. It’s a rare immunodeficiency disease that increases risk to infections.
The family’s four-year-old son Michael doesn’t have the disorder and he was found to be a donor match for both of his baby brothers. And after doctors and his parents explained to the tot what donating bone marrow would be like, he was happy to help the seven-month-old babies out.
Now the twins have recovered from the procedure and have headed home from the hospital. In a video posted on Facebook by the boys’ mom, Robin Pownall, we see the proud big brother and the little guys getting ready to go. “OK, I saved you guys,” Michael says in the video. “It’s time to go home.”
A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the family with medical bills and expenses.
